Literacy NRV is delighted to welcome Kristine Saunders, Youth Librarian for the Pulaski County Library System, to our Board of Directors. Kristine was unanimously voted in as a new member during our September board meeting following the recommendation of Sally Warburton, longtime board member and director of Pulaski County Library. We are deeply grateful to Sally for her many years of dedicated service and advocacy for literacy in our community, and we are thrilled to continue this strong partnership through Kristine’s leadership.
A Lifelong Advocate for Literacy
Kristine has been a passionate champion of literacy throughout her life and career. She spent several years as a middle school English teacher before transitioning into library services. For the past two years, she has served as the Youth Librarian for Pulaski County Library System, where she has expanded programs that foster a love of reading among children and families.
Within her first month at the library, Kristine launched Imagination Library for Pulaski County, a program that mails a free book each month to children under the age of five. Her efforts have made early literacy resources more accessible to families across the region, helping to build lifelong learning habits from the very start.
Continuing a Mission of Empowerment
“Though my focus has been on early literacy, literacy at any age is the foundation to a successful life, and I would love the opportunity to support those that need assistance,” Kristine shared in her nomination statement.
Her experience as both an educator and librarian makes her a valuable addition to our board as Literacy NRV continues to expand its programs for adults and families throughout the New River Valley. Kristine’s passion for community engagement and her deep understanding of literacy’s transformative power align perfectly with our mission.
Please join us in giving a warm welcome to Kristine Saunders as she begins her service on the Literacy NRV Board of Directors!
