On Thursday, December 4, Literacy NRV was honored at the Truliant Foundation’s Founders' Dinner in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Held at the Truliant Operations Center, the event brought together nonprofit partners, community leaders, and supporters to celebrate collaboration and community impact.
This year, the Truliant Foundation recognized four organizations across its footprint with People Helping People Spotlight Awards—an acknowledgment of nonprofits whose work strengthens lives, expands opportunity, and reflects the spirit of partnership.
Literacy NRV was selected as the Spotlight Award recipient for Southwest Virginia, and executive director Ginny Ayers was proud to attend the event to accept the recognition on behalf of our learners, volunteers, partners, and supporters. The award also came with a surprise $5,000 grant, which will directly support Literacy NRV's adult education and workforce programs.

In the event program, the Foundation highlighted Literacy NRV’s work in expanding opportunities for adult learners in the New River Valley:
“With the Truliant Foundation’s partnership, Literacy NRV expanded its Skill Up NRV and English for Life programs, helping adults gain vital workplace and language skills… strengthening our community and inspiring growth, confidence, and lifelong learning throughout the New River Valley."
The recognition reflects the collective impact of our entire community—our dedicated volunteers, skilled instructors, committed partners, and most importantly, the adult learners who pursue their goals with determination and courage. While Ginny accepted the award, the honor truly belongs to every person who has supported or participated in Literacy NRV’s mission.
Established in 2023, the Truliant Foundation is a 501(c)(3) public charity with a purpose to lift up and transform Truliant member communities through charitable giving, collaboration, and meaningful partnerships. The Foundation strives to be a catalyst of growth for established nonprofits seeking the support and guidance they need to flourish and spark
positive change in their communities. The Foundation also provides college scholarships to Truliant members and relief funds to Truliant employees facing unforeseen personal hardships.
Over the past year, Literacy NRV also received an $8,000 grant from the Foundation to support our English language programs, and Truliant Federal Credit Union has been a long-time supporter of our work in the region. This new Spotlight Award further strengthens that partnership and helps us continue building access to literacy, workforce readiness, and opportunity across the New River Valley.
We are grateful to Truliant Federal Credit Union, the Truliant Foundation, and everyone who believes in the power of adult education. Together, we are truly people helping people—and together, we’re helping adults across our region learn, grow, and thrive.
