Summer Learning in Full Swing at Literacy NRV

While many people associate summer with slowing down, things are anything but quiet at Literacy NRV! Our classrooms and tutoring sessions are bustling with activity as adult learners continue working toward their goals. This summer, students are participating in GED study sessions, individualized tutoring, and English instruction through classes, conversation groups, and even a summer book club.

Kim participates in our weekly GED study groups and has passed 2 out of 4 of her GED exams! She's studying hard to reach the finish line.

We're excited to continue partnering with Blacksburg Refugee Partnership on Skill Up BRP, offering English and job readiness instruction for newly arrived families. And thanks to the support of our friends at the Blacksburg Public Library, we've been able to host many of our programs in a welcoming, accessible space that helps learners feel right at home.

Our book club for English language learners has been held at the Blacksburg Public Library. The intermediate/advanced group is reading Seedfolks by Paul Fleischman.

Whether it's improving English, preparing for the GED, or gaining the confidence to pursue a new career, our students are making the most of every moment this summer—and we're proud to be part of their journey.
