At Literacy NRV, we believe that when a community comes together, extraordinary change becomes possible. This fall, we were honored to receive a second generous gift from 100+ Women Who Care NRV, a philanthropic giving circle of local women committed to strengthening the New River Valley through collective giving. Their $10,000+ donation in October 2025—following their first gift to Literacy NRV in 2023—comes at a truly pivotal moment for our organization and the adult learners we serve.
Who They Are: Women Creating Real, Local Change
100+ Women Who Care NRV is built on a powerful idea: that even modest contributions can create meaningful impact when combined with the contributions of others. Their mission is simple but deeply effective—each quarter, more than one hundred women pledge $100 to support a nonprofit working right here in the NRV. Every organization considered must be local and 501(c)(3) certified, ensuring that funds go directly to places where members can see and feel the difference they make.
This group reflects the best of who we are as a community: women from diverse backgrounds, life experiences, and financial circumstances, joining together to strengthen the place we all call home.
Why This Gift Matters—Right Now More Than Ever
In recent months, Literacy NRV has faced unexpected budget cuts due to several grantor partners losing their federal and state funding streams. These reductions pose real challenges. As the need for English, literacy, and digital skills grows across our region, our capacity to meet that need has become more strained.
The renewed support from 100+ Women Who Care NRV arrives at exactly the right time. Their generosity will allow us to expand our English for Life program in 2026, increasing access to English instruction for adults across the New River Valley—parents, workers, newcomers, and neighbors seeking opportunities to participate more fully in their communities.
These funds will help us:
Add new class locations and schedules to reduce waiting lists
Provide materials and curriculum supplies for learners
Support childcare and transportation solutions that remove participation barriers
Recruit and train more volunteer instructors
Strengthen partnerships with organizations like the YMCA at Virginia Tech, which help us reach diverse learners
Ensure that classes remain free for every adult who needs them
At a time when other funding streams are shrinking, this gift helps bridge the gap—keeping our programs strong, stable, and growing.
Seeing Their Impact in Action
This fall, our English for Life classes at the YMCA welcomed 35 students from 10 home languages. Volunteers, staff, and community partners supported everything from classroom teaching to meals to childcare. Each learner brought their own goals—communicating confidently at work, helping their children with homework, navigating daily life, and building a stronger sense of belonging in the NRV.
The continued support of 100+ Women Who Care NRV means more stories like these. More classrooms filled. More neighbors connecting. More opportunities for individuals and families to thrive.

A Community Thank You
To the members of 100+ Women Who Care NRV: thank you for believing in the power of education and the strength of community. Your commitment to collective giving is already transforming lives, and your renewed investment in Literacy NRV will ripple outward for years to come.
We see the impact of your generosity every day—in the confidence of a student reading aloud for the first time, in the pride of a parent navigating a school meeting independently, and in the joy of volunteers who witness meaningful growth each week.
Together, you are helping build a more connected, empowered, and equitable New River Valley.
From all of us at Literacy NRV—thank you for lifting up our learners, our volunteers, and our community.
